Maltese Dogs Have you seen a smooth coated hair dog which is untainted white in color, with plunging ears, black nose, very dark encircling eyes, head that is slightly round and with weight that ranges from1.4 to 3.2 kg? If yes, then you probably see a Maltese dog, known as one of the smallest dog breeds.
Where did Maltese dogs get its name? Accordingly, Maltese dogs were named by the Romans and Greeks after the Island of Malta, where they believed was the place of origin of these dogs. However, evidences show that Maltese Dogs originally came from Asia, despite of beliefs of numerous people that it was from the Isle of Malta in Mediterranean Sea. But Maltese dogs didn’t actually come from this island because there is no proof that shows it, only evidences have been found on ancient arts and drawings in Asia could bear out, that were hence made way back as early as 5000-2000 BC.
What are the characteristics of Maltese dogs? Maltese dogs are extraordinary kind of dogs. Among the dog breeds, they are one of the brightest and very sociable. They are susceptible, gifted and alert to respond. They are also very playful, vigorous, and fun to be with that make them very appealing. They like to accompany you for walks or wherever you go and they loved to be cuddled. Compared to large dogs, they are more courageous, loyal, and warm-hearted by nature. They are kind and polite to humans and other dogs. They can also get along with other pets, such as cats.
However, although Maltese dogs are known as one of the gentlest mannered among the dog breeds, they are sometimes difficult to deal with because of their separation anxiety. They have the tendency to be extremely anxious when left alone in the house that caused them to express their unhappiness by breaking household rules. They undergo excessive barking, urinating all around, scratching walls and doors, vomiting and etc. To avoid separation anxiety of Maltese dogs, they should be practiced with proper training while they are still young. They should also be given regular exercise to help reduce their stress and anxieties. The fragility is also one of the concerns of Maltese dogs. Because of their small size, they can be badly hurt in any moment. They might be stepped by someone or drawn by children. On the other hand, grooming Maltese dogs require extra care and awareness. Even though they are known as odor-free dogs, they still need frequent bath with proper shampooing and conditioning. Their long hairs that can easily attract dirt and dust should also need regular combing and brushing in order to sustain their fine-looking fur. Additionally, they should also be exposed to fresh air and sunshine and allow them to play in backyard with supervision.
Maltese Dogs are considered to be in a toy category because of their size and mostly lovable characteristics. Caring them may take extra time and attention but they’re enchantment are worth giving for. These little dogs are breed to give your home a fun-filled spirit to dwell with, and they are breed to give yourself a truly delightful and certified hairy companion.
