Naturally puppies are very active and they require regular work out to keep them in good posture. We should take them outside for an efficient walk for half to one hour to make them energetic. Some may find this to be a difficult task to be followed everyday; we can allow them to play indoors in the yard which should be spacious for the pup to run around. The dog can even be taken to some school playgrounds for walking. Some dogs are given practise by the owners to walk perfectly on the treadmill when they are exercising. Thus we can spend little precious time with our pet.
Preparation of exercise schedule by keeping the dog’s requirements in mind will be good being fit. The entertainment of our pets differ accordingly as the small puppy enjoy running and playing around but the older ones wish to have just a short gentle walk. Allow them to exercise for just fifteen minutes and slowly increase the timings as they grow bigger and can manage to have a long walk. If we wish to go for a night walk along the road side we should be careful about the traffic and so it is better to wear a reflective dress or some light colored clothes to avoid accidents.
We can exercise our puppy right before and after meals. Allow them to drink a little of water, over filling disturbs the normal digestion.
After walking as we reach home it is must to verify our pet’s paws to confirm nothing has trapped in it. In case of any items such as glass piece, burrs, ice, and rocks must be taken apart at once to prevent infection.
As the dogs love to play around we can coach them a game of “Fetch”. This helps them to exercise and have fun as well. Begin with rolling a toy to a short distance away from the puppy and train him to bring it back. As he grows we can gradually rise the distance of our throw. If he is able to perform the game better we should congratulate and surprise them with gifts.
