Crate training puppy sould not be something that mke it feel like being in the prison. The crate could be a place for relaxation and the safe place for puppy. Crate training is similar with the housebreaking, it can be a rewarding experience.
Firstly, you have to make a decision on what crate that you like. The crate you picked should big enough for the puppy to be able to turn around and lay down. You can use the cardboard as a divider, if the crate is too big. Once the puppy grow up you can remove the cardboard out.
Let’s the puppy sniff and wonder around the crate, until he is comfortable with it. Even though the puppy might wonder at the first time he saw. You can put the puppy favorite things, like chewy toys or the blanket in it. By doing this it will help in encourange him to get into the crate.
Try not to scare your puppy once he get into the crate. Not pushing him into the crate. This will make the puppy not trust in you and scare them.
Use the same command as you use with it once the puppy is in the crate. Keep repeating the command every time he get into the crate. Praise the puppy every time he get in the crate.
The next step, which is hard to do is closing the crate door. The puppy must get used ot being locked in the crate. You should do it another day to try this step. Close the door as the puppy watching, and only close for a minutes or two and open the door once the puppy want you to do so. You can repeat the command and give the puppy praise everytime it gets in. Then you can close the door longer time each time.
When the puppy is in the crate, it can be whine. Once you open the door and the puppy keep whining then what you have to do is simply telling him to be quiet. If he still whining, then keep give him the command until he hushes up.
By doing this doesnt mean that you are being cruel to the puppy, but you are teaching it. Puppy is cute, but once it grow up it’s could be very harm and big troble.
It is not wise if you are using the crate as a babysitter. The puppy should not be placed in the crate more than 6 hours. Puppy could develop hte abandonment of fear if it’s was left alon.
The puppy will feel comfortable once they are outside the home or during travelling so it’s good idea to train your puppy in the crate.
